Pushing the move-in date back by three weeks has left student residents feeling confused and frustrated. Allowing residents to move in sooner while keeping them in a self-quarantine for the latter 2 weeks of the delay will help prevent the spread of COVID-19 on campus without doing another round of testing. This will also provide the solid housing that some residents need that has been taken from them by the delay of move-in. While we must take the pandemic seriously, we must also consider those who rely on EMU for solid housing during the school year. The 2 week quarantine is being done by other large universities like Syracuse and New York University. It is a step in the right direction in resuming on-campus operations.
