Petition updatePromote diversity, inclusion and combat racism in Eastchester NYElect Cheryl Smith, Steve Projansky, Stan Thangaraj and Cardinale Smith to Eastchester School Board
Eastchester for all of us
16 May 2022

Eastchester Schools Community:

On Tuesday May 17, Vote YES on the budget and elect Cheryl Smith, Steve Projansky, Stan Thangaraj and Cardinale Smith for Eastchester School Board. You can vote in the EMS gym from 6AM - 9PM.

Last year, Eastchester voted for a slate of candidates that has failed us.

Since their election, these candidates’ actions have led to the resignation of our Superintendent, attacks on Special Education, disenfranchisement of voters, and countless wasted hours fighting NY State mandates. These board members appear driven by a national political agenda more than the welfare of our students.

This year, a new slate flying under the same banner is promoting an agenda of fear seen elsewhere in the country, attacking our district diversity initiatives (Board meeting 7/13/2021, 3:04:20), excusing the use of racial slurs by students in our schools (Board meeting 10/26/2021, 2:35:35), and going on a witch hunt for uncomfortable books (Meet the Candidates 5/11/2022, 48:27).

If this slate wins, they will have partisan control of the board and will impact the trajectory of our schools for years to come.

Elect Cheryl Smith, Steve Projansky, Stan Thangaraj and Cardinale Smith because:

  • We need experienced trustees to hire an exceptional superintendent.
  • We need a return to civility, with a board that works TOGETHER for the benefit of all students, with transparency and open communication.
  • It is time to get back to the business of Education—strong academics and updated curricula, flexible pathways for all students to succeed, increased STEM, and assessing any learning gaps.
  • We need a healthy, safe environment in all our schools with support for special education students and staff, program leadership, and family partnerships.
  • We need accountability to the Strategic Plan and a renewed focus on teacher and administrator retention and recruitment.
  • The voters just passed a $74.6m bond. Now, more than ever, fiscal responsibility and oversight are paramount.
  • The quality of our schools directly impacts our property values.
  • Cheryl and Steve voted to re-open Garth Road polling location and all 4 candidates support re-opening it ASAP.

On Tuesday, vote like your kids’ education depends on it, because it does. Vote for the best candidates for the job and prevent further erosion of the mission of our public schools.
