Halt the closure of the GP Walk-In Centre at Eastbourne Station

The Issue

The Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) for Eastbourne, Hailsham and Seaford  are considering the closure of the GP Walk-In Centre at Eastbourne Station.

We believe that the Walk-In Centre is vital for both the people of Eastbourne and visitors to the town.  The central location of the Centre makes it an ideal place for many people who may need to access help from a GP urgently.  It is also a necessary service for the homeless population of the town, many of whom will not be registered with a GP surgery.

The CCG is justifying the proposal by making claims about how the people of Eastbourne are feeling and what they are experiencing relative to the town's GP surgeries.  The East Sussex Save the NHS Campaign is arguing that these claims are false and has started their own survey of the Eastbourne population.

But we would also like to gather signatures on this petition calling for the CCG to halt these plans.  Over one year ago the Guardian newspaper published this article about mass closures of GP Walk-In Centres in which Lib Dem MP Norman Lamb describes the idea as: "depressingly shortsighted"  and says that it is: "driving some of the pressure that is pushing A&E units to breaking point".

Please sign  this petition to show the CCG just how much people value GP Walk-In Centres and please fill out the survey if you live in Eastbourne or visit the town.

Thankyou

Thank you for copying me in on this important petition and issue. I share your concerns about the town centre potentially lacking a health drop-in centre. Consequently, I will be meeting the staff from the station drop-in centre soon, as well as lobby the commissioning body to ensure adequate provision for those in need. Thank you. Regards, Stephen
