🚨 Serious process concerns with the Gravel Pit Solar expansion case (CT Siting Council – East Windsor)
An abutter and registered intervenor in the case did show up to the hearing — she was just late because of work. Because of that, Gravel Pit Solar moved to strike her entire testimony from the official record, and the Siting Council allowed it.
That means:
• Her testimony
• Her exhibits
• Her interrogatories
— all removed
The problem? Other intervenors’ questions and evidence referenced her filings. Now parts of the record point to material that no longer “exists,” leaving gaps and unanswered issues in what’s supposed to be the official evidentiary record.
She has also been removed as an intervenor, and her material shifted to “public comment,” which does not carry the same weight as docketed evidence and is not treated the same way in formal findings.
That raises serious concerns about fairness and transparency in a process that has enormous impact on our town.
Adding to the concern: fire department meeting minutes discussing serious solar fire safety issues were submitted into the record by Gravel Pit Solar — and later withdrawn and removed.
When safety discussions and sworn testimony can disappear from the official record, the public deserves to know how decisions are being made and what information is actually being considered.
This isn’t about being for or against solar. It’s about:
⚖️ A complete record
📂 Transparency
🏛️ A fair process for residents
A decision is expected in March on whether this project will move forward, affecting prime farmland and the backyards of our neighbors and friends.
Process integrity matters.
