I am starting this petition on behalf of my family and friends who are very much in agreement and supportive of my views. Recent media has shown plans to renovate Cottingham Chapel into a Tea Room in memory of and to raise funds for Ellie Mai, a little girl who tragically died of a very horrible disease.

As much as I very much commend the parents of this little girl for raising so much money for charity which has also helped many other children in many ways and their families too, a cemetery is not an appropriate location for what they wish to achieve.

There are a number of upset residents I have spoken with who live in Cottingham and visit this cemetery regularly to pay respects to their loved ones. A growing number of us are quite concerned and feel that our feelings have not been considered, not everybody wants to sit and chat whilst having a "cuppa and a slice of cake" according to the wording of Hull Daily Mail in June 2017.

People like myself like to go and lay flowers and have a few minutes quiet time thinking of our loved one, the hustle and bustle of a clattering tea room, people having a "chat" and laughing whilst eating cake is not something we want happening just metres away from the cemetery grave stones, I think what Ellie Mai's parents are doing is great but the location is completely disrespectful, upsetting and not appropriate. I for one would most definitely not like to see these plans going ahead in such a special and quiet place of reflection. Particularly as my dear Grandad is buried here. I would be more than happy to support Ellie Mai's family but not in our local cemetery, a different location needs to be looked upon please.

I do hope to gain as many signatures as possible to show support within our village of Cottingham and to people who have loved ones buried here, also people who wish to support my petition for the right causes.
