  • Save Live music at the Monk's Walk.

The Monk's Walk is a vibrant community pub and one of the oldest pubs in the region. Live music has been a core part of the pub's business for many years seeing it host music sessions for over 20 years and being a main venue for singarounds during the popular Beverley Folk Festival. Since lockdown ended the pub has hosted amplified and unamplified acoustic music events which have been so important for many musicians and audiences who have been starved of the communal experience of live music. Research has shown how beneficial for mental health live music can be both for the performers and audience. The pub has always been respectful to neighbours and music levels are monitored and events end by 9.30pm. The sessions are not just for professional musicians but give a platform to many amateur musicians and encourage collaboration.

A petition to Parliament to Support Live Music Venues by preventing inappropriate complaints being actioned received the following government response on 7th December 2016:

'Music venues are a vibrant and vital part of the music ecosystem and economy and government will continue to support and promote an environment in which UK’s live music industry can carry on thriving'

We the undersigned urge the local authority to allow the Monk's Walk to continue to host music events in the manner in which it has for many years bringing pleasure to so many members of the local community.
