Dear Friend of Huntly Park,
I have been approached by several people over the past few weeks who have thanked me for saving Huntly Park. I tell them that I didn't save it. They saved it. You saved it. The community saved it. No one person can save a park. No political party can save a park. It requires a community to come together as one and take a stand. That is what we did. We have shown that we can take the initiative and cause East Renfrewshire Council to catch up with us.
Here in Giffnock and Thornliebank, we are doing that more and more. We have done it with Huntly Park. We have done it with Giffnock Library. We have done it with the bollards on Fenwick Road. We can keep doing it, as we know what is best for our community.
We are working the democratic process. Local democracy is not just about an election every five years; it is about constant community engagement on the issues that matter to us. The trick now is to keep that going and ensure that we, the residents, are the decision makers on local issues wherever appropriate.
