Dear Neighbour,
It is little wonder that we have to fight to protect precious resources like Huntly Park. Local democracy is failing and online harassment is on the increase.
We have a very big problem locally. It is worse than I thought. It relates to basic freedoms we are all supposed to enjoy. In common with others, I have been subjected to online abuse and harassment. It will not stop me from campaigning for my community, no matter how vile it gets. It never will. It gets reported to the police and an excellent solicitor. Every time.
As it doesn’t work, some have tried a new tactic of silencing me: having posts removed by contacting social media administrators and protesting. Protesting that a local resident is standing up for something in the community.
Those who seek to intimidate and silence are not an issue for me personally; they are an issue for all of us. I am challenging the status quo. I am challenging those who seek to silence others. I am challenging the erosion of our community by the inadequate who spend their lives behind a computer trying to control others.
As many know, I don’t sit behind a computer all day and I don’t seek to silence. I get out and I listen. I will be getting out and speaking with my neighbours, the vast majority of whom I think are wanting something better than what local social media can offer. It is time for something so much better than we have become used to. It is time for local people to be listened to and respected.
