Dear Neighbour,
I said that I would declare our victory when the future of all of Huntly Park is protected in law. That has not happened yet and I am keeping in touch with Fields in Trust on the point. Here is my prediction: the official announcement will be delayed until shortly before the 05 May local elections. There will be lots of photos and back slapping. There will be lots of people you may never have seen before asking for your vote, telling you how they love Huntly Park. It is just a hunch I have!
I will be standing in those elections as a local independent candidate where I live: here in Giffnock and Thornliebank. I have decided to do this partly because of the Huntly Park issue. We raised over 1,400 signatures to protect the park. But why was that even required? If we had representatives who were fully committed to protecting Huntly Park, this petition would not have been necessary. But it was.
We have shown that by pulling together as one community, we achieve more for our home area, for each other and for our families. I think we need much more of that. Local issues should not become party political point scoring opportunities. They are our issues. Is time that our voices were heard first; not as afterthoughts.
