Since I started collecting litter in Huntly Park over a year ago, I have noticed some significant improvements. First and foremost, we have secured the future of the park. People are taking more pride in it. Last year, I was shifting sacks of wine bottles and beer cans. Tonight my daughter and I lifted discarded coffee cups and sports drinks bottles; nothing like the quantities last year. I know that local residents are active in keeping the park looking good and it shows.
We have shown how the community loves its park. What better way to demonstrate to East Renfrewshire Council that the pavilion should be used for a community café? I expect that in the weeks and months ahead we will make progress on that front; just by keeping the issue on the agenda and showing that the community can be the best guardians of its cherished local asset. I am working with others to do just that.
