Petitioning East Lothian Council to formally adopt The Cockenzie Masterplan

Petitioning East Lothian Council to formally adopt The Cockenzie Masterplan
The Issue
The East Lothian Council (ELC) Cockenzie Masterplan is the result of the 2016 ELC Consultation with the communities surrounding the Cockenzie site and stakeholders.
The consultation was guidance from the Scottish Parliament Petitions Committee to ELC following a community petition against the energy park proposal of 2014.
The ELC Cockenzie masterplan captures the vision for the site held by our communities and is visionary, dynamic, future-proof and job creating.
Three years after the ELC community consultation process, ELC continue to go against the wishes and aspirations of our communities and stakeholders by not formally adopting the masterplan, causing division, unrest and anger.
This unwillingness to act has so far resulted in:
- InchCape gaining planning approval to site their substation in the wrong location - more info
- Prestonpans Community Council initiating a proposal for an industrial container/cruise terminal on the site - more info
- ELC funding a further feasibility study on a port when the authors of the Masterplan had already done so and excluding it as a viable option - more info
- Skyrora applying to test rocket engines between 2 residential areas - more info
The Masterplan is our communities' vision for the Cockenzie site - which includes our communities’ greenspace, pathways and parklands.
The Masterplan brings leisure, recreation, tourism, industry and jobs whilst protecting our coastal environment and heritage site.
Please sign the petition to show your request that East Lothian Council formally adopt the Cockenzie Masterplan to set out a clear template for the future development of the site.
