Demi Hornsey started this petition to East Lothian Council

Whilst out on a walk at Meadowmill, our dog Darcy caught the scent of something and ran up the side of the tunnel and into the bushes (that were bare because of winter time). There was nothing separating the grassy section of Meadowmill, where hundreds of dogs visit everyday, to the Tranent slip road on the A1 where cars travel 70mph.

Unfortunately, Darcy lost her life in what was a completely avoidable accident had there been some form of fence or wall separating this area.

Darcy wasn’t the first dog to easily access this stretch of the A1 and I fear she won’t be the last. If no action is taken, another animal or even a small child could just as easily end up on the A1 as she did.

My family and I are absolutely distraught. Our little Darcy only had 4 years with us. We would like to thank all of the drivers who stopped to try and help and to the vet that happened to drive by at the time.

If East Lothian Council were to fence off this access point, like they did for the railway line, then they would be potentially stopping other families having to go through what we are at the moment.

Please sign this petition to prevent this happening to anyone else and to show East Lothian Council that action MUST be taken.

Thank you!
