"The petition also encouraged us to do some Netflix research and we discovered that you can significantly reduce the cost of Netflix movies by adjusting the Playback Settings in your Netflix profile. We also discovered that Netflix has a ‘One Connect’ program that uses locally positioned servers to store Netflix movies. Netflix customers receive faster downloads and EBTC might be able to reduce our ‘middle mile’ cost which could be passed on to our customers. We experimented with a similar technology a couple years ago but it was too expensive for EBTC alone and we could not find enough local partners. This may be intended for larger communities – but I’m going to follow up with Netflix and explore the possibilities. And we may all want to keep our eyes on a company called EyeIO. It has an impressive list of founder’s aimed at developing superior algorithms for video compression. Its first customer was reported to be Netflix." - Butch Rorabaugh
