West Virginia Promise Scholarship

West Virginia Promise Scholarship

The Issue

Students in West Virginia have worked hard continuously to receive this necessary award to further their education. Promise is worth up to $4,750 a year for four undergraduate years, totalling $19,000 for those four years. This scholarship should not be taken away from us. We have worked too hard, and spent too much money taking the ACT, which costs $45 per test WITHOUT the optional writing portion, to receive scores necessary to receive Promise. At Petersburg High School, seniors meeting the requirements were supposed to receive this reward on May 25th, 2016. We were not made aware of the possible loss of Promise until May 12, 2016, less than two weeks before we were supposed to receive the reward. This was an unexpected and very worrisome announcement. Do not let them take away our source of funding for college because, without Promise, many of us will no longer be able to receive a college education, preventing us from achieving our dreams. Promise affects every eligible student in West Virginia, don't take away our futures!
