For immediate release October 7, 2015 - Bluffton, SC - On Tuesday night, Bill Evans, resigned his position as the Chairman of the Beaufort County Board of Education. The board has become the center of controversy regarding its handling of the employment of School Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Moss. Dr. Moss has come under scrutiny based on charges of nepotism. His wife had accepted a newly created position with the school district office and standing policies regarding nepotism were changed at about the same time. Media outlets continue to seek documentation as to a timeline of these events. "Clearly Chairman Evans had lost the trust of the school board given that members were calling for his resignation," said Greater Bluffton Republican Club President Joe Iaco, and added "I would rather not speculate on what motivated Mr. Evans to resign, but the board now has a free hand to deal with the Moss situation, since Evans was a chief supporter of Dr. Moss". Darlene Moss, wife of the school superintendent, resigned after one week in the newly created job as Director of Innovation. "Two people have now resigned who were connected to the issue of nepotism, Darlene Moss and Bill Evans, " said Iaco. "However, the person who created the situation by changing the nepotism policy is still gainfully employed by the school district," Iaco added and said, "It is now time for the school board members to complete the task and remove Dr. Moss as superintendent of schools". Iaco also said, " The board needs to take the first step in storing the trust of the public, but it cannot do so as long as Dr. Moss remains in this position".
