As the United States military prepares to launch another attack on a Middle Eastern country it is essential that Ireland’s neutrality is restored and the illegal use of Shannon Airport by the US military is ended.

Eamon Gilmore repeatedly pledged to end the illegal use of Shannon Airport by the US military when seeking election in recent years. He must now live up to these pledges and inform the US Government that he wishes to restore Ireland’s status as a neutral State and their use of Shannon Airport as a transport hub for troops and weaponry must end.

Allowing the continued use of Irish airports and airspace by a military machine which is conducting attacks outside of the remit of International law is endangering Irish citizens at home and abroad, as well as our armed forces involved in United Nations peace keeping duties.
