Dear Warren Farm Nature Reserve supporter,

With our Skylarks singing, Butterflies fluttering, and some incredible new species recorded on our grassland wildflower meadow #WarrenFarmNR, Summer is buzzing and we have a mix of amazing petition news and… some sadly shocking Ealing Council news for today's update. Let’s start with the amazing news, it is the weekend after all…

Together we have grown OVER 22,000 SIGNATURES! That’s 22,000 wildlife and nature supporters who are calling on Ealing Council to give Warren Farm NR the protective designation of Local Nature Reserve!  The love and support our wildlife campaign continues to receive is incredible, THANK YOU SO MUCH! Our PETITION REMAINS OPEN until our species-rich meadow is safe, so please continue to SIGN AND SHARE and together, let’s make it happen!

In sadder more shocking news, we recently discovered that an unpublished Ealing Council environment report had recommended Warren Farm NR as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC) as far back as 2017. But this extra level of land protection that could and still can be afforded us was buried and ignored. Why was this report not published at the time? Why did it take a Freedom of Information Request to obtain this (redacted) information and why did the council choose to ignore its own report findings, the conclusion of which was to protect Warren Farm NR for our wildlife and create greater connectivity

This discovery has sadly raised some uncomfortable questions in relation to the council not following due diligence with its own environmental policies and climate commitments. We continue to request Ealing Council to be more open and transparent with us, with YOU our supporters and with the wider public. In more hopeful news, Ealing Council will be undertaking another SINC review (it is 6 years overdue) and part of that process will need to consult with our charity Brent River Park and our experts who are keen to work with the council to have the facts heard and wildlife acknowledged.

We are also working hard to ensure a proper Phase One habitat survey of Warren Farm NR is undertaken by Ealing Council so that the evidence of just how amazing a species-rich site Warren Farm NR is today having rewilded, is indisputable and clear. We will of course keep you updated as this progresses! You can read more details on the SINC review HERE and on the post family-friendly protest habitat survey news HERE

Let’s end our petition update with SOME LOVELY NATURE NEWS! We have had some amazing new species records appear! Our first ever orchid, a Bee Orchid who mimicks a female bee to attract males! Our first unusual hybrid wildflower, a mix of Goat’s Beard and Salsify to create a one-off scarce and beautiful discovery! For birds, a Cranesbill spotted by one of our young naturalists! Warren Farm NR continues to show us just how special and important a green space we are and in the face of a climate emergency, in one of the most nature depleted countries in the world, we more than deserve Local Nature Reserve designation. 22,000 voices and growing agree!

THANK YOU for all of your continued support, TOGETHER WE ARE MAKING A REAL POSITIVE DIFFERENCE FOR WILDLIFE! OUR CAMPAIGN CONTINUES!
