Warren Farm Nature Reserve
Feb 20, 2023

Dear Warren Farm Nature Reserve supporter,

Spring may be approaching and with it all of the wonder, beauty and hope our meadow wildflowers bring – however, since our last update the weather has been stormy here at Warren Farm NR where EALING COUNCIL MADE THE ENVIRONMENTALLY RECKLESS ANNOUNCEMENT TO DEWILD OVER HALF OF OUR ALREADY REWILDED MEADOW. The shockwaves caused from this HUGELY UNPOPULAR DECISION have been strongly felt by our community and leading wildlife groups. So please find a comfy spot and read on to DISCOVER WHAT ACTIONS WE HAVE TAKEN and what ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE to ensure our wildlife is safe from development!

It’s fair to say we were a mix of saddened, angry and dismayed at Ealing Council for trashing their own environmental policies at the recent important meeting held on 25th January. The plan, which was passed by the council’s cabinet, WOULD SEE MORE THAN HALF OF OUR ALREADY REWILDED MEADOW GIVEN OVER TO A SPORTS FACILITY. The RSPB who are supporting our campaign, tell us Warren Farm Nature Reserve holds a quarter of London's Skylark population - gone. Plants like our Copse Bindweed, a first record for Middlesex in over 300 years - gone. Hunting ground for our Barn Owls and Peregrine Falcons - gone. These are not the actions of a council that claims to care about the environment! And we were not the only ones to think this…

OUR PETITION JUMPED BY 5000 SIGNATURES! We have just gone OVER 19,000 SUPPORTERS and growing!

On top of the massive petition jump, a number of high-profile EXPERTS, WILDLIFE ORGANISATIONS AND CHARITIES HAVE CRITICISED THE DECISION and are supporting our campaign, including: wildlife writer and conservationist Kabir Kaul; wildlife TV presenter Chris Packham; President of The Wildlife Trusts Liz Bonnin; London RSPB chief Andrew Peel; London Wildlife Trust Policy Director Matthew Frith; President of the RSPB and Vice President of the Wildlife Trusts Dr Amir Khan; zoologist conservationist and wildlife TV presenter Megan McCubbin; TV and Radio presenter naturalist and ornithologist Iolo Williams; TV presenter and founder of Ealing Wildlife Group Dr Sean McCormack, Director of Rewilding Britain Alastair Driver among many others!

EALING COUNCIL’S DEWILDING #WARRENFARMNR DECISION HAS BEEN CALLED-IN FOR SCRUTINY which gives councillors the much-needed OPPORTUNITY TO THINK AGAIN. To essentially cancel or delay the decision that would see our wildlife lost forever here, contributing to our most vulnerable species extinction both locally and UK wide. WE CAN DO BETTER!

COME JOIN OUR FAMILY-FRIENDLY #WarrenFarmNR PROTEST which is taking place at the Scrutiny meeting TODAY – TUES 21st FEB, 5.30pm, meeting outside EALING TOWN HALL, NEW BROADWAY, LONDON, W5 2BY.

Everyone is welcome! Wildlife-inspired fancy dress and banners are encouraged!
