UPDATE FOR OUR 51,000 SUPPORTERS

Over the past year, more than 51,000 of you stood with us as unpaid carers fought to be treated fairly. Today, we’re asking you to stand with another carer whose campaign has grown into something powerful.

Mary Porter has cared for her severely disabled son Daniel for 45 years. She launched a Parliamentary petition calling for the Carer’s Allowance earnings limit to be changed — and it has already passed 5,000 signatures. But what happened next was bigger than any single petition.

Carers across the UK began contacting Mary with stories of:

caring 100+ hours a week
losing Carer’s Allowance when they reach State Pension age
Carer’s Allowance being deducted from Universal Credit
being penalised for earning even a few pounds over the limit
being chased for repayments caused by departmental errors
living in poverty while providing essential care that saves the state millions
Mary has now compiled a national report based on these testimonies, setting out how the system is failing unpaid carers — and what needs to change.

We’ve been working closely with Mary, and the overlap between her campaign and our own is unmistakable. The same carers. The same problems. The same injustice.

What happens next
Mary is exploring whether there is enough support for a peaceful carers’ rally once her petition closes — not just about earnings limits, but about the wider crisis facing unpaid carers in the UK.

We believe this moment matters.

A national community of carers is finally speaking with one voice. And we want our 51,000 supporters to be part of it.
