DUTY OF CARE: Urge Kooyong's MP to speak up for Children and Aid Workers in Gaza

DUTY OF CARE: Urge Kooyong's MP to speak up for Children and Aid Workers in Gaza
The issue
According to UNICEF reports, over 1 million children in Palestine are exposed daily to significant threats due to conflict-related violence. These innocent lives are caught up in an environment where death, injury and trauma have become a norm rather than an exception.
Furthermore, Aid Worker's Security Database has recorded the death of 222 aid workers, including close to 180 UN staff. Additionally, obstruction and attack of aid workers, objects or delivery may amount to war crime. As a result, the UN Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights has recommended:
- "independent, thorough and effective investigations into all alleged violations of international human rights and humanitarian law committed and subsequently need to be conducted promptly."
The Australian Government and our federal representatives have the responsibility to uphold international law, to ensure our geo-political allies abide by such laws.
The urgency to speak up and act now is more pertinent than ever with the loss of the life of our fellow Australian, Zomi Frankcom. I can only imagine Zomi was compelled by her sense of compassion to act with integrity in spite of risks associated working on ground, to provide aid to affected Palestinians. We need our Federal Represenatives, inspired by Zomi's bravery, to do the same.
I am calling on our federal representative for Kooyong, who has shown a lifetime of dedication to improving the lives of children with complex health issues, to extend that commitment towards advocating for children affected by war on civilians in the Middle East, particularly Palestinians trapped in Gaza Strip.
Our representative has demonstrated political willpower before - turning attention towards those unseen futures. Now is not the time for silence or indifference; it is time we stand together as a community here in the electorate of Kooyong, Victoria, Australia and demand action from our elected representative.
We implore our federal representative for Kooyong not only hear us but also advocate for these innocent lives trapped amidst conflict zones. We need them now more than ever before – let us ensure their voices aren’t lost amongst bureaucratic noise.
Please sign this petition today; let's urge our elected officials into action - because every child, all victims and their families deserves a right to safety, peace, and human rights.
