A lot has happened since our last update. Most importantly, we have applied to UNESCO Paris for the inclusion of the Golden Rock and the Godet burial ground in UNESCO Routes of Enslaved Peoples. Another milestone is that after 400 days of silence from the government of St. Eustatius, a dialogue has started that led to our participation in the St. Eustatius Cultural Heritage Implementation Committee. See: https://www.statiagovernment.com/news-and-tenders/news/2022/10/19/statia-installs-cultural-heritage-implementation-committee

And the best news, we are more than proud to announce that the renowned Ms. Peggy King Jorde, Cultural Projects Consultant, is also on board of this Committee as an independent advisor.  She is an expert in defending and preserving marginalized Afrikan burial grounds.

From her website https://kingjordeculturals.com:

“In 1990, King Jorde was thrust into the limelight as a pivotal figure in the fight to protect a 17th century African Burial Ground that was rediscovered during the construction of a federal office building. Under her leadership, King Jorde as project director & contractor to a federal agency, developed and led the nationwide architectural design competitions for the African Burial Ground National Memorial and Interpretive Center.”
