We the undersigned residents of neighborhoods in Southwest Durham, NC and other concerned community members hereby oppose the rezoning of 602 and 606 W. NC Highway 54, Durham, NC 27713 by Envision Homes, LLC, a developer based in Raleigh, NC.
The proposed site for the 25 town homes is in an area surrounded by single family homes. Although we are not opposed to all development, we are opposed to development that is not in character with a surrounding community and that creates environmental concerns.
We also oppose the increased traffic and noise in surrounding neighborhoods and on Highway 54, the increased light pollution into homes, and the potential damage/pollution that could occur to the creek bed flowing into Jordan Lake despite the developer's best efforts. Allowing a developer to clear '80% of the forest and construct 25 town homes' with the hope of fostering even more development on HYW 54 would be detrimental to citizens in the surrounding area.
The Durham City Planning Department and Durham City Council had already decided this property is a single family home area in the past and for good reason. As citizens, we appreciate being able to rely upon the work, planning, and due process involved in the government's decision making.
We commend the Durham City Planning Department and the City Council for previously denying the rezoning, and we request that the city once again denies the rezoning of this property.
