Duplicate Gobbagombalin Bridge Wagga Wagga

Duplicate Gobbagombalin Bridge Wagga Wagga
The issue
Update: This petition has been forwarded to The Hon Dominic Perrottet, Premier of NSW. With 1198 Signatures online, along with the paper version with 1826 signatures making a total of 3024 people who have signed our petition.
If ever there was a time we needed a duplicated Gobbagombalin Bridge that time is now!
With extensive flooding in the Wagga Wagga area, traffic over the bridge has been of epic proportions. All vehicles which, in normal times, would travel through North Wagga, Bomen & over Eunony Bridge at Gumly Gumly have been redirected via Gobba Bridge. This is now the only way to get to town from the Northern side of Wagga. This means that heavy vehicles have no other alternative but to use this bridge along with huge levels of local and passing traffic.
The lineup of traffic on the bridge has increased traveling time substantially and, in some cases, increasing a 25 minute trip from Junee or Coolamon to up to 2 hours to get into town. Not to mention the local University, Schools & work trips from Estella, Boorooma, Gobbagombalin and Bomen.
I will be forwarding this petition to NSW Premier Mr Dominic Perrottet. He visited Wagga Wagga last week and saw, first hand, the impact of flooding in our region. It’s time he took notice of our ongoing requests for a duplication of Gobbagombalin Bridge and acted on his promise of helping flood affected areas. We may not all have had our properties flooded, but we are certainly feeling the consequences of extreme flooding in our area.
Apart from the obvious traffic delays, the real urgency for a duplication of the bridge is for safety reasons. If there was to be a fire, car accident, flood rescue or medical emergency on the Northern side of town, there is no way for an emergency vehicle to get over the bridge. When traffic is piled up in both directions there is very little space between vehicles and absolutely no way they could pull far enough to either side to let emergency vehicles through.
Our health and livelihoods are being ignored, purely because the government don’t want to spend the money to duplicate the bridge. With council opening up more & more housing estates on the northern side of town this will only get worse.
Please sign this petition and pass on to as many people as possible. It’s not only the local area that is affected, it’s all outlying regions who use the Olympic Highway and rely on emergency services to transfer them for treatment at Wagga Base Hospital & surrounding specialists.
Will it take someone to die while lined up in traffic to get into town before something is done?
