Dunkin’ Donuts: The Time is Now to Offer Beyond Sausage!

As a teenager, I loved stopping by Dunkin’ Donuts before school to grab an iced coffee and a donut. But as my diet changed for animal welfare and the planet, I am no longer able to enjoy a Dunkin' breakfast treat.

You can imagine my excitement when I heard they were considering adding a plant-based breakfast sausage to their menu. I would love to become a regular customer again if Dunkin’ were to follow Tim Hortons - Canada’s iconic coffee and breakfast chain - in offering the Beyond Breakfast Sausage at its national locations.

If Dunkin’ doesn’t launch a plant-based sausage, the breakfast chain will lose an enormous opportunity to join the massive plant-based meat trend. There is a large and growing consumer demand for the Beyond Sausage and Dunkin’ Donuts will fall behind the times if they do not offer plant-based options in a year when 39% of consumers in the United States say they are actively trying to incorporate more plant-based foods into their diet. The plant-based industry generates over $13 billion in sales annually throughout the US economy which is showcasing that people want change in the foodservice industry.

Restaurants including Tim Hortons, TGI Fridays, Del Taco, Carl’s Jr, and BurgerFi are already offering Beyond Meat as a way to be plant-based accessible and tap into the growing demand and popularity of plant-based eating and even Burger King came out with a plant-based burger across national locations.

The Beyond Sausage would also bring great financial gains to Dunkin’ Donuts. Beyond Meat shares have soared over 258% from their original IPO price and were worth 1.5 billion dollars in their market debut. Beyond Meat reports that their products are available in over 35,000 outlets and that sales have been growing fast - with revenue from 2018 at $87.9 million, an increase of $55.3 million from the previous year’s revenue.

The time is now for Dunkin’ Donuts to join 2019 and offer the Beyond Sausage nationally!
