Stop the Deportation of Bamidele Chika Agbakuribe,

Bamidele Chika Agbakuribe is facing deportation after the University of Dundee cancelled his student status. Bamidele, a blind PhD student  studying in the School of Education and Social Work complained about the lack of supervision and support for his PhD studies to the university and rather than address the issues they cancelled his student status and informed the Home Office leading them to his deportation order on 26th March 2019.

While the University of Dundee is happy to accept tens of thousands of pounds of fees they are not prepared to provide apposite supervisory and specialised support. Their treatment of Bamidele including changing his supervisors and leaving him without supervision and appropriate equipment for his PhD amount to disability and racial discrimination. This delayed his progress and has then been used as an excuse to terminate his studies. His PhD research supports the education of blind people in Nigeria and is the type of activity that UK overseas development assistance is supposed to be supporting

Bamidele’s four children are in school in Dundee and now his eldest is about to sit for his SQA examinations but faces uncertainty and disruption, while his wife is seeking to cope with supporting both Bamidele’s studies and their young children.

We demand the University reinstate his student status, provide him with academic support and for the Home Office to rescind his deportation.

STOP PRESS: The campaign has temporarily halted the deportation order until 5th June.
