Transparency for the ending of Professor Evan Charney's contract

Transparency for the ending of Professor Evan Charney's contract
The Issue
As concerned Duke students and alumni of Professor Evan Charney's courses, we wish to express our frustration and sadness with the recent decision to not renew his faculty contract. Although this decision alone is upsetting and may raise serious questions about campus speech culture, Sanford administration has not been clear regarding the reasons behind its actions.
By signing this petition, we are urging the Duke and Sanford School administrations to be more transparent on the reasons behind the decision to end Professor Charney's contract. As stakeholders in our own educations and the future of Sanford, we feel that we have a right to more information on this issue. Moreover, clarity on this matter will prevent students from making false or exaggerated accusations. We recognize that much of this process is confidential and legally restricted, but would still appreciate further explanation behind Sanford's reasoning.
