DCU Students’ Union urge the University to reverse its decision to increase rents by 4%
Why this petition matters
DCU Students’ Union is outraged by the decision made by Dublin City University to increase the price of on-campus student accommodation in DCU Campus Residences by 4% for the year 2020/21. DCU Students’ Union is committed to breaking down the barriers to education. To increase on-campus accommodation rents is simply adding another one.
The Students’ Union are grateful for its collaborative relationship with the University, however, this is something the SU simply cannot stand over and will continue to fight against to ensure that the student voice is heard. We, at DCU Students’ Union, understand the huge pressure the University is under to refurbish current accommodation to provide more accommodation on campus, however, the price of this should not be put back onto students. Students cannot afford this in the current market where Ireland is seen to have the highest college fees in the EU and with current rents in Dublin at an all-time high, according to the latest Daft.ie report. We fear the decision taken by the University will only exacerbate the crisis and inspire the private sector to continue to hike their rents up too.
DCU Students’ Union urge the University to reverse its decision to increase rents by 4%. Please sign this petition in support of all current and future students of DCU.
