3 REASONS TO SAY NO TO IKEA IN DUBLIN
1.Dublin needs a SOLID CITY IDENTITY. Slow down, find a fit that truly works for the DUBLIN residents.
Dublin is currently known as a city without a downtown and has a reputation for poor city planning. It is termed AMERICA'S BACKYARD but seems a City without a true identity. Placing an IKEA store in such a prominent location along the freeway, would only serve to solidify the poor city identity of Dublin. We do not want the city of Dublin to be synonymous with IKEA.
2. YES, IKEA owns the land.
Yes, IKEA owns the land but this does not mean IKEA can do whatever they want with the property. It is the developer's responsibility to propose a plan that the community can respond to. The IKEA development doesn't meet the interests and desires of the community. The City Council MUST work with the Planning Commission and the Community and provide an agreeable plan that meets the needs of Dubliners. They must propose a plan that the community can respond to.
3. TRAFFIC
The traffic on 580 and Dublin BLVD is already unbearable. Althought the IKEA employee might be taking BART to get to work, the IKEA customer is not. They are driving. The Dublin IKEA is planned for 330,000 sq feet. There is only one other store larger in the US. To help you gauge this, the COSTCO Livermore is 160,000 square feet. The COSTCO Livemore has 2/3 MORE parking available than that planned for the DUBLIN IKEA.
4 WAYS TO STOP IKEA IN DUBLIN
1. VOTE in the upcoming election. Ask each person running for City Council how they will handle the IKEA situation.
The only firm information I have on those running is for Doreen Wehrenberg. She is an incumbent running for the City Council for 2 more years. Her past votes support growth and she voted for the study. Her last comments at the debate indicate to me that she would vote for IKEA.
Please contact those running for the City Council and let them know how you feel.

2. EMAIL the current City Council members, the PLANNING Commission.
The IKEA structural plan has to go before the PLANNING Commission prior to CC approval. The PLANNING Commission is instrumental in at least reducing the size of the structure.
Even if you have already sent emails. Send more.
