We demand the immediate removal of police on our campus because Dominican University has no need for law enforcement on campus. Their presence is harmful, dangerous, triggering and in ineffective.
Over the years, several Black students and students of color have been racially profiled and some have been wrongfully accused of crime due to racial bias by law enforcement on our campus. We have seen how systems of violent racial and sexual dominance are perpetuated and controlled by law enforcement and therefore, this is not the time for Dominican University to seek lukewarm reforms and endless dialogue. We demand that Dominican remove law enforcement from campus immediately by addressing police brutality scourge that is eating our societal peace. We will no longer tolerate lukewarm reforms at Dominican since Black people and people of color are losing their lives due to anti-blackness sentiments by police forces nationally & internationally.
An educational institution must be a safe space for all students.
We already have an effective unarmed campus security at Dominican University. Therefore, San Rafael Police presence on our campus is unnecessary.
If we want Dominican to be better, Dominican must do better.
