Services will be disrupted, or possibly eliminated for thousands of children who have these diagnoses. These type of children CANNOT deal with disruption in their lives. If there were not therapies--occupational, speech, physical---for these children, they would NOT be high-functioning, which is what will happen to them when the insurance companies take away the right for them to continue because their diangnosis will "change" under the DSMV. The change would put all three diagnoses under one category-autism spectrum disorder- ELIMINATING Asperger syndrome and P.D.D.-N.O.S. from the manual.This would be devastating as well as life-changing to those who have been diagnosed with these syndromes.
