Say NO to A combined DSMS / WSE

The Issue

Dear School Board members and future Superintendent of DSISD.  With the departure of our previous Superintendent, perhaps we have a great opportunity to keep WSE where it is located and keep DSMS an independent campus.

Teachers and staff at both campuses have asked repeatedly for the move to not take place.  We believed that combining these campuses would be detrimental to students of DSMS who will be forced to endure widespread construction and loss of green space.  Residents on Peabody lane would be directly affected.  Road conditions continue to create danger for parents and an added 850 students will create more danger.  Feasibility of the move is inconclusive as engineer reports of drainage at DSMS prove building should not occur.

Demographics show that DSMS must be allowed to grow to 1200 student population and that turning Walnut Springs into an Administration building is a waste of resources.

Finally, there is no educational proof that a combined elementary/middle school model is effective or just.

It is our hope that new leadership and our school board will take a careful look at staff wishes and discontinue the plan to combine DSMS and WSE.
