Reinstate Arsenal DBC's Open Class Evaluation and Replace Dan Acheson
The Issue
For months, the Drum Corps community has been calling for some sort of change to happen, in regards to the lack of swift action being taken by Drum Corps International and specifically, it's CEO, Dan Acheson. Outcries by fans to remove administrative members from Pioneer, Oregon, the Cadets, and many other corps who were knowingly and actively paying staff members with histories of sexual abuse, misconduct, and harassment fell upon deaf ears, with no action being taken for months.
Arsenal DBC, who not only has taken preventive measures to ensure these people are never employed or spend time volunteering with them, but has taken groundbreaking steps in ensuring other cases of abuse or misconduct don't occur between members and other members, and members and staff, is immediately punished for trying to give members of two other corps a home. These members did nothing wrong and punishing Arsenal DBC and it's young, but intensely organized, corps director is entirely wrong.
The fact that Dan Acheson and DCI, can move in less than 24 hours to enforce a social media policy taken entirely out of context, but can't take any action for months to penalize a member corps or its directors for KNOWINGLY employing sexual predators is absolutely asinine.
Arsenal, and it's corps director, did nothing wrong by offering a home to displaced corps members; corps members that had been stripped of a family, just months before summer tour started. This was one of the most honorable actions I've seen a corps director/drum corps make, and was met with nothing but respect by every person who saw it on social media.
It's absolutely necessary for DCI to reopen it's Open Class Evaluation for Arsenal DBC, a SoundSport corps that was on the next level and would have had an incredible debut year. The crime, if there even is one, does absolutely not fit the punishment, in this case. Arsenal and it's corps director did nothing wrong by offering a solution to a terrible problem that will see two corps not take the field this summer.
It's also time for Dan Acheson to step down as CEO of Drum Corps International. Over the past few months, he has proven to be entirely out of touch with the DCI community and it's fans.
