In 2000, Congress created the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to improve safety on our roads.  There have been SIX confirmed administrators and THIRTEEN acting administrators in 24 years. And our roads have gotten UNSAFER.  We believe that the high turnover in that position is because none of the leaders chosen have had actual driving experience to understand how the laws and regulations created affect safety.  The Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act of 1999, which established the FMCSA requires the administrator to be an individual with professional experience in motor carrier safety.

Therefore, in order to improve safety, FMCSA needs to be led by an actual truck driver.  And that driver should be Lee Schmitt.  He has 30 years of safe driving experience.  And is very familiar with the rule/law making process and is known in DC by lawmakers. Lee also has led crews for construction of roads and firefighting.  He has witnessed accidents on our roads as a first responder.

NOW is the time for the Trump transition team to appoint an experienced truck driver to lead the FMCSA, to make our roads safe. Choose Lee, even if the end goal is to disband the agency.  Please sign and share this petition if you agree.
