The Issue

The Cenotaph stands as Britain's principal national war memorial, commemorating the sacrifices made during the First and Second World Wars and subsequent conflicts. It unites us in remembrance each second Sunday in November.

Dress the Cenotaph with Union Flags every Remembrance Sunday - Starting Nov 9,2025

While the monument already holds immense significance, draping it in Union Flags every Remembrance Sunday will provide a more vibrant and visible tribute to those who have given their lives for our freedom.

Remembrance Sunday, November 9th, 2025

Let's adorn our National War Memorial for this November service.

On Remembrance Sunday, citizens across the UK and abroad join together in solemn reflection. Dressing the Cenotaph with the Union Flags can symbolize national unity and respect, illustrating a powerful reminder that our nation stands together in honoring our heroes. This act will also serve to strengthen public engagement and connectivity to the spirit of remembrance, making the experience even more meaningful for all attendees.

The Union Flag is a symbol that embodies the unity of our nation, and its presence on this national day of remembering can enhance the acknowledgment and reverence for the valour and sacrifice of our servicemen and women. By visually transforming the Cenotaph, we can create a stronger emotional connection and elevate the national and international perception of this solemn occasion.

Cenotaph unveiled on November 11, 1920

For VE Day 80th celebrations in 2025, the Cenotaph, the National War Memorial, was draped in large Union flags, the first time the landmark has been so draped since it was unveiled by King George V more than a century ago, on 11 November 1920.

Although the current ceremonies are deeply profound, the addition of Union Flags to the Cenotaph can enrich our traditions and pave the way for a more inclusive remembrance experience. Please join me in calling upon the appropriate authorities to adopt this change starting November 9, 2025, ensuring that future generations are reminded of the sacrifices made for their continued freedom.
