Dear Laray Mayfield, Dreamworks Studios and the powers that be,

Mamoru Oshii's seminal film "Ghost in the Shell" is a landmark story.

Scarlett Johansson is a terrific actress and a creative and talented individual in her own right, but good stories, from big budget fares to indie cult classics, are indebted to good casting. Ghost in the Shell is one such story that deserves treatment closer to that which makes the source material so special; attention to detail, and as far as adaptations are concerned, that means casting the right actor for the right character.

Maggie Denise Quigley/Maggie Q has proven herself as a capable action heroine who has starred in some of the biggest genre films and TV shows in the last decade (Live Free or Die Hard, M:I:III, Priest, Nikita) and I for one would love to see her take on the role of Major Motoko Kusanagi.

I can't think of a better suited actress, and given the recent news of casting, believe me, I have tried.

Personally; I don't appreciate how Scarlett Johansson has been typecast for this particular role. It is understandable that Hollywood A-listers carry a reputation that big budget studio films look for (they attract audiences), but I guarantee as a lover of stories and diversity, please take a chance and recast — GITS will do much better in the box office.

Ghost in the Shell has a global following. Please deliver something more than expected.
