Ask Senator Reid to fulfill his promise to bring the DREAM Act for a vote during Lame Duck session!
*Also check out this petition: http://www.change.org/petitions/view/dream_act_now-_let_us_learn_let_us_serve_let_us_dream Ask your Senators and President Obama to support and to champion the DREAM Act during the upcoming Lame Duck session!
I am writing to ask you to fulfill your promise of placing the DREAM Act for a vote when you and the other Senators return to work on November 15th for the Lame Duck session.
I am writing to ask you to think about the 2.1 million DREAMers who want to fulfill their dreams--to go to college and/or to join the military. Please think about Ada in Boston, originally from Honduras, who is now 21 years old and has been in the country since she was 8 months old. After Ada's tourist visa expired and her family was denied aslyum for political persecution, she didn't even realize that she was undocumented until her senior year of high school when she couldn't get a Driver's License or leave the US and visit her great-grandfather. Lawyers and guidance conselours told her to drop out of school, learn a trade, and wait for the DREAM Act. But Ada refuses to wait. Just like all DREAMers, she is fighting for her dream to attend college and give back to her community, the only home that she knows- the United States.
Please think about Cesar Vargas in New York City, originally from Mexico, who has been in the country since he was 5 years old. After Cesar was denied the opportunity to serve in the Armed Forces, he went on to graduate from college. Now, as a 3rd year law student, Cesar is showing us the dedication that all DREAMers have to their education and to the United States. We are asking you to stand with Ada, Cesar, and the millions of other DREAMers for the DREAM Act this year.
And the DREAM Act is not only necessary and beneficial to DREAMers but it is the right thing to do and the best thing for America. It is time to let these students fulfill their DREAMs, to go to college and/or the military and to better their lives, their families and their communities. And I know that we will be a better nation with all of our DREAMers and their dreams fulfilled.
