Return Dekalb Schools Graduation to Scheduled Week
0 have signed. Let’s get to 2,500!
Dekalb County Schools has rescheduled all county high school graduations to occur after Memorial Day (week of May 27-June 1). This change pushes graduation outside of the approved, school calendar and into the summer break. Schools and parents were notified on November 1 of the change.
PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TO ASK DCSD TO MOVE GRADUATION BACK TO THE WEEK OF MAY 20-24. THIS IMPACTS ALL HIGH SCHOOLS IN DEKALB COUNTY.
Students, Teachers, Parents, and Administration have all planned for graduation to occur during the last week of school (May 20-24). Summer jobs have been accepted, vacation plans have been booked, and teachers are contractually done with the school year as of May 24. To hold graduation AFTER the end of the school year means that many of the students, parents, and teachers that have worked so hard for this honor will not be able to attend. The class of 2019 deserves to have a complete, cohesive graduation to honor all that they have achieved in high school with their peers and teachers.
We ask that the school district move graduation back to the week of May 20-24 as planned on the board approved calendar and all approved communications. If the World Congress Center is not available, we ask that they either allow schools to schedule their own facilities or move the graduations back to DCSD stadiums (as was the practice prior to 2016).
For the students and teachers that have worked so hard to see the class of 2019 graduate, please sign this petition to move graduation back to local facilities for this year and hold graduation the week of May 21-24 as planned.
