Dear Dr. Bryant and AUHSD School District’s Officials

It has been with great pleasure to learn that Vietnamese Language Class has been made available at Magnolia High School. This will eliminate the needs and inconveniences for Vietnamese American students there to spend weekend hours taking Vietnamese classes offered by members of the Vietnamese community.   At Oxford Academy, Vietnamese Language Classes for our students are even more important because of the following reasons: 

#1. Provide significant reliefs and fair opportunities to Vietnamese American students who wish to learn Vietnamese languages as part of the Oxford Academy's workload, instead of taking on extra burden outside of their classroom to learn the Vietnamese language.

#2. Formalized Vietnamese Language instructions as part of the classroom experience.

#3. Significantly increase the Seals of Bi-literacy for Vietnamese American students and AUHSD at Oxford Academy. Currently, the bi-literacy rate with regards to Vietnamese language is dismal as compared to the actual number of Vietnamese American students, who are in the 300+ number, or 25% of the Oxford Academy student population.

#4. Gives non-Vietnamese students an opportunity to explore and learn Vietnamese language that is the second most popular both in AUHSD and in Orange County  after Spanish.

We would like to ask that you, Oxford Academy, and the School District provide the Vietnamese Language classes to Oxford Academy students as soon as possible.
