An apology for the state of emergency in Jamaica 1976.

We demand that the new leader of the PNP, Dr. Peter Phillips apologize to the people of Jamaica for the PNP’s corrupt use of the state of emergency in 1976.

We further demand that Dr. Phillips apologize to the Hon. Pearnel Charles – current Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Olivia Babsy Grange, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, and all those persons who were detained for sheer  political reasons.

We note that the Commission of Enquiry chaired by the Chief Justice the Hon. Mr. Justice Kenneth Smith found that although then Prime Minister Michael Manley had the legal authority to have declared a state of emergency the state of emergency was corruptly used for political gains.

We further note that the violence which led to the declaration of the  state of emergency including the horrific fire at Orange Lane was staged.

We believe that June 19, 2017, the 41st anniversary of that dark period is a fitting time for repentance and rebirth.
