Fulton county elementary schools mask mandate for 2021-2022 school year
The Issue
This is a plea to Dr. Looney & the Fulton County School Board to please consider re-implementing the masks mandates and COVID social distancing protocols that were instituted for the 2020-2021 school year for elementary schools.
While high school and middle school age children are now eligible for Covid Vaccines and thus they have a means of protecting themselves against the COVID-19 virus, elementary school children DO NOT have that same opportunity.
Currently, for elementary school students masks and social distancing are their ONLY means of protection against this virus. The more highly contentious Delta variant has caused a resurgence of COVID-19. Reports now indicated that the virus is infecting a younger and younger population, which includes children! It is VITAL that we take every means necessary to protect our kids.
And to those that say masks are uncomfortable, I completely agree. But, it’s more comfortable than a VENTILATOR or having to deal with the effects of LONG HAUL COVID symptoms.
And to those that argue there is a virtual option, this would mean withdrawing students from their school and enrolling in an alternative school where they may not have the support system of teachers and friends that they rely on. Furthermore, not all students adapted well to a virtual school environment. So parents/students would be left with the option of learning in an environment that isn’t optimal for their development OR putting their health directly at risk.
I encourage you to sign this petition so that Dr. Looney & Fulton County Schools knows that we must continue to be vigilant in protecting our kids from this virus, specifically our elementary school age children who cannot yet get vaccinated against COVID-19.
PLEASE IMPLEMENT A MASK MANDATE FOR FULTON COUNTY ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS!
