Partial Tuition Refund For Spring 2020 Semester

The Issue

In light of the COVID19 Coronavirus pandemic, the Columbus College of Art & Design administration has wisely chosen to move all classes online for the second half of the Spring 2020 semester. While we believe this is a smart decision for the health and well being of the student body and faculty, this mode of online education is not what we pay for. For the following reasons, we are seeking a Partial Refund of Tuition for the Spring 2020 semester:

In this remote learning scenario we no longer have access to any of the resources we need to create the artwork we enrolled in the school to make, including but not limited to: labs, facilities, equipment, valuable face to face guidancance/instruction and professional physical critique. We believe these things to be essential to the art school learning experience and therefore in their absence we are seeking a partial monetary refund for the remaining weeks of the Spring 2020 semester. These weeks are valuable time we are missing out on being at the school physically and without these resources, it is entirely impossible for us to receive the fullness of the educational experience we are paying for. Many students are experiencing great financial suffering due to numerous job closures throughout the state including the loss of on campus jobs. Thus we know that a partial refund of tuition and reduced billing on tuition collection for those on a monthly payment plan would greatly assist in alleviating the financial stress and uncertainty of the pandemic. Therefore, we respectfully implore the administration to rightfully and swiftly grant us monetary return compensation.

*Additionally we feel it is vital that CCAD extend this support to students living on campus, as many students have expressed desire for a partial refund of room and board. We strongly request that the administration consider a refund for the remaining weeks of the semester for students who deem it necessary to leave the school and return to their permanent residence for their own health and safety. This monetary refund will also help students mitigate the unforeseen cost of having to suddenly vacate campus housing.
