This petition calls on The Doctor Oz Show to tell North America about POTS, thus expanding awareness!

POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) may impact between 1,000,000 to 3,000,000 Americans, and millions more around the world. Frequently, it commonly takes patients many years if at all to be diagnosed, because many health professionals and society in general are not familiar with POTS or have a limited understanding.

Due to POTS patients often looking perfectly healthy, the condition generally being misunderstood, a treatment like a high salt diet that is shocking to Americans and Canadians who are always being told to reduce their salt, and symptoms such as fatigue that can be mistaken for laziness, POTS patients can suffer emotionally as well as physically. POTS patients constantly encounter family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors who just do not understand why POTS patients are "not themselves" and "claim" they cannot do certain things when they look fine. Indeed, POTS is frequently misdiagnosed as anxiety.

POTS is a type of dysautonomia (autonomic nervous system dysfunction), and a form of orthostatic intolerance that is associated with the presence of excessive tachycardia. Patients often experience more than this and can have fatigue, headaches, dizziness, heart palpitations, exercise intolerance, nausea, diminished concentration, shaking, fainting, coldness or pain in the extremities, chest pain, shortness of breath, heat or cold intolerance, and more!

Women are more frequently diagnosed with POTS, but anyone could be affected. There are many illnesses and health conditions that can bring on POTS, some of which include pregnancy, a virus or other infection, traumatic accident that injures the spine/head/neck, chiara malformation, autoimmune issues or mast cell problems, conditions like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, etc.

By featuring POTS on The Doctor Oz Show, an audience of millions will be made aware!

Understanding, research, and a more informed community, can all grow when greater awareness is created!
