Clare Savas started this petition to DR Liam Fox MP

The proposed Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) proposes to close a series of rural roads and lanes to motorised traffic apart from agricultural vehicles, access and delivery vans.

These local roads and lanes serve a number of rural villages providing essential access to neighbouring towns and villages for school, work and to access vital services and facilities.  Their closure would result in all normal vehicle traffic being diverted through existing congested villages exacerbating existing traffic problems, almost doubling journey times and creating additional air pollution from queuing traffic and longer journeys as a result.

One example of the re-routing would see all traffic moving between Cleeve and Claverham towards Clevedon (a main service centre) having to go through Yatton High Street.  Not only will this double the journey time, but Yatton is already severely congested with queuing traffic, including HGVs. The additional impact on residential amenity from noise and air quality will be unacceptable.

The provision of safe cycling, walking and equestrian routes is supported.  However, these should be properly planned and delivered through funding received as part of development proposals within North Somerset (S106 and CIL). They should not be ill conceived or achieved by closing existing vital rural routes.
