In a huge success, the SLPS Board of Education recently approved a policy change to be able to change any building name that does not align with the mission of the district. It was decided just moments ago that the name Samuel M. Kennard does not meet the requirements and it was REMOVED from the building and program name! 

Dr. Adams, the Superintendent, requested that the name be removed and instead simply be Classical Junior Academy for at least one year until the parent community can be engaged to choose a suitable replacement. What we've seen in the past two years is that the parent community did choose a replacement, but it was not considered suitable by the Board or Dr. Adams.

It is now time to work with the district and the school to educate them on why Betty McNeal Wheeler is an excellent choice for this most distinguished honor. Judith Chabot, a longstanding French teacher at Metro, wrote a beautiful and comprehensive story of Betty's history within SLPS. Please read this and pass it along to all. The time just after an amazing success is crucial to continue the work.
