Make Skin Removal Surgery For Bariatric Patients Covered By Medicare

Make Skin Removal Surgery For Bariatric Patients Covered By Medicare
Why this petition matters

To the NB Government, Premier Blaine Higgs and Dr Jennifer Russell.
I am writing this petition to ask why is bariatric surgery covered in New Brunswick Canada, but not the leftover loose skin?
I myself am a bariatric patient. I have since lost over 100lbs with a lot of hard work. I am happy to say I am more mobile than I ever have been.
Unfortunately, once I get to my goal weight and am able to keep my weight off, I will have to live with loose, sagging skin that will be debilitating and will cause me to end up having body dysmorphia.
Not only that, loose skin can sag as far as your knees. The skin in a woman's breast area can sag to her belly button. With all that sagging skin, we end up with skin infections causing the skin to become very thin and prone to tearing.
It is completely unfair that people who want to change their lives with weight loss surgery hit a roadblock at the very end and are told, "If you have upwards of $10,000 a plastic surgeon will help you."
What about people who are disabled? Or people who work a minimum wage job? We would never be able to afford to have what I feel is a necessary surgery after a huge amount of weight loss.
Loose skin is hard to care for. We need medicare and our government to look at this seriously. If medicare can take care of the bariatric surgery, why can't they help take care of us after?
I am asking everyone who has lost a large amount of weight to sign this petition. There are other provinces that do provide help for those who have loose skin. New Brunswick should be one of those provinces since we have the most overweight people in all of Canada.
