Require the Use of Masks by Students in Forsyth County Schools, Georgia
The Issue
The options presented to Forsyth County students and their families for going back to school in the fall make them choose between remaining a part of their school community and their health. Students can opt to do school fully online for an entire session and be forced to withdraw from social network, full support services provided in person and go without access to all extracurriculars, or return to their school without appropriate safety measures in place. Families must choose to put their health as risk during a time of substantial community transmission, Dr. Bearden will not require students to wear masks in schools that would protect each student’s life, as well as the lives of their teachers. Mask are 65% effective at preventing virus transmission. At high importance is health and safety of teachers, if teachers lives are at risk, are out of school, who will teach our children. We must protect this resource for the educational benefit of our children. We demand that Dr. Bearden revise his plans for the return to school in the fall, and make it possible for students to stay in person safety. We also demand that Dr. Bearden put the health of his students and teachers first by requiring masks for all people in the school building.
