When it comes to marriages in India, we prepare for almost everything but tend to ignore very crucial and important aspect - health. Deciding to spend life with someone without the prior information of his/her serious medical condition, if any, can invite problems in future, and break down of marriages which in itself is a painful and traumatic experience. In some cases, the child born out the wedlock is unhealthy.

There has been rising number of such cases in India, and till date, this topic is hardly discussed (unlike the other aspects such as financial, cultural and educational background) between the parties and their families. 

Hospitals such as Apollo provide pre-marital medical check ups, but currently such tests are not mandatory to be done. The tests cover aspects like Genetic medical history, HIV and STD's, Thalassemia, Fertility, Chronic disease, etc. In Saudi Arabia, pre-marital medical test for certain aspects is mandatory.

Unfortunately, there is still sense of hesitation around this. As a result, people take uninformed decision that can invite unwanted stress and trouble in future.

Taking this into consideration, please let's support each other in making pre-marital medical check up mandatory. This will not only help the parties in taking informed decision, but also reduce the burden on courts with rising cases of cheating, impotence, etc. in marriages in India. Thank you!
