Lansdowne needs a new high school

Lansdowne needs a new high school
The Issue
We are asking that you do not proceed with the current budget request of 31 million dollars in renovations for Lansdowne High School. We would like another year, as a community to deliberate with the school system to find a more cost effective and less wasteful solution.
A renovation which does not deal with all of the basic needs, is not appropriate for the amount of money being requested. We would prefer to have portable AC installed while we as a community can have a debate with our local authorities about a more appropriate way to meet all the facility needs at Lansdowne High school. The renovation will only include a elevator to deal with the lack of handicap access, the main office, the library, central air and work on electric system to handle central air strain. THATS IT.
Lansdowne High School was built in 1963. According to a recent facilities audit in 2013 we were rated 1.74/5.00 ..
* lacks air conditioning (temps often 20 degrees above outside)
* interior finishes are in very poor condition
*water damage evident in the ceiling and exterior windows which were just replaced at a cost of 9 million dollars.
*accessibility issues due to long corridors and multi levels
*significant structural settlement
*mechanical systems are in poor condition
*the exterior skin of the building is failing
*A MAJOR intersection produces traffic and safety concerns.
At the Board of Public Works meeting on Jan 27, Governor Hogan and Comptroller Franchot said that the school is sinking into the pond which is something the community has known.
As well as rotting beams in the auditorium and a cafeteria that is literally sinking. Mold and asbestos was discovered where dance uniforms and team equipment were stored. The complete list can be found on the facebook page.
I am sorry that the site asks for your address. It is something that is used only when involving federally elected officials and is not used, or shared or can be viewed by the public or myself. Please share..
