Dr Christian Jessen must apologise for racist comments, GMC must investigate
The Issue
British Doctor Christian Jessen was quoted in a UK public radio interview (Fubar Radio 13/3/20) as saying that Italy’s coronavirus lockdown is “an excuse” to “stop work” and “have a long siesta” in a series of controversial remarks.
In light of the current global health crisis of COVID-19 pandemic, The Italian public and British public, together with the families, and friends of the Anglo-Italian communities, remain deeply distressed and offended at the remarks directed towards the nation of Italy, by Dr. Christian Jessen, at a time of such immeasurable suffering and loss.
This petition calls for an immediate unreserved public apology from Dr. Christian Jessen to all victims he has caused suffering and distress with his unprovoked and unwarranted abuse. We ask that the GMC investigate this serious offense, with a view to taking action in respect of the gravity of the circumstances surrounding it.
The petition also calls for all members of the medical community to refrain from public remarks of racism towards another nation at all times, and none more so than during a global health crisis where it is seen to encite racial or ethnic hatred, this is a crime under the laws of several countries.
