Even with the privilege of Parliamentary privilege, Senator Jacqui Lambie did not go nearly far enough in her statement to parliament about top level corruption within the Australian Defence Force.
In fact, she missed the opportunity badly.
She knows a great deal more than she spoke about.
She has seen the thousands of cases of rape and other abuses committed by senior army officers (and others) and how the various Chiefs of Army (including Generals Cosgrove and Morrison) turned a blind eye to them.
She has been informed about the corruption by señor army officers in relation to the 2nd D&E Platoon which was the result of a cover-up of atrocities committed in Vietnam and the falsification not only of mens' service histories that resulted, but the integrity of Australian military history. She knows about the failure of General Cosgrove, General Hurley, and General Morrison to address the issues concerning that matter and its impact on the men who are directly involved.
She did not raise the issue of Defence security being breached due to illegal access to documents by villains within their administration- said documents now floating around the internet
She did not raise the issue of senior army officers deliberately falsifying service documents to reflect a different truth (e.g. a 'H. Seymour' claimed I only served in one unit in Vietnam, and not four, as the Nominal Roll now clearly proves).
She did not tackle Dr Brendan Nelson OA over the Australian War Memorial's refusal to release all documentation surrounding the vexed 2nd D&E Platoon matter and why it felt the need to engage the Commonwealth Government Solicitor to keep its secrets.
Nor did she address the wretched abuse of veterans at the hands of a cowardly clutch of Defence apologists defending the ADF- using off-shore web sites to shoot the messengers. Nor who are the powerful, influential men who have set up and financed those web sites, nor seek to determine who the cowards are and why the Australian Federal Police have failed to act against them.
Nor did she address the corruption within the Department of Veteran Affairs which has resulted in veterans committing suicide rather than fight its entrenched insensitivity in dealing with traumatised men and women.
She did not raise the issue of the corrupt awarding of gallantry medals in war, and civilian awards issued after the war to those officers who missed out on medals the first time around- or the corrupt dealings in regards to the upgraded medals made good on the End of War List (such as how Captain Tom Arrowsmith received a Star of Gallantry despite his involvement in the atrocities committed on May 30 1969).
She did not comment on material provided to her as to how Ministers and other Senators were blatantly deceived and lied to when requesting answers from the Director of the Australian War Memorial and its Directors, General Steve Gower and Brendan Nelson OA about the 2nd D&E Platoon being 'edited out' of the war histories.
And she did not raise the issue of how a murderer- Bob Buick - received a gallantry award in Vietnam after deserting his position and his troops at the battle of Long Tan and who returned the next day to put two bullets through the heart of a prisoner-of-war- and who not only escaped court martial but who is now at the heart of attacks against fellow veterans daring to stand against the ADF machine.
Perhaps only a Royal Commission into the Australian Defence Force will, once and for all, will clear out the incompetents at the helm, the junior Ministers given Defence and Department of Veteran Affairs portfolios who dare not properly or decently deal with their clientele because any waves would negate further advancement, and the sycophantic bureaucrats who protect them.
Such an opportunity missed.
I now wait for my local Member, the Hon Stephen Jones MP to ask his questions- a promise he made in late 2014.
